Only between 15 and 22 percent of the world’s population is on the Internet.

Sometimes I forget that the internet hasn’t truly reached everyone on the planet, because it’s hard to imagine life without it. A recent count from Internet world stats estimated that the number of people using the internet is around 1.5 billion, but the world’s population is +6 billion. Even more interesting is that the largest internet audience is in Asia/Pacific (416 million - 41.3%), with Europe coming in second (283 million - 28%), and the North American audience only managing a 3rd place finish (185 million - 18.4%).

I wonder what these numbers will look like in 5-10 years. The internet’s growth isn’t likely to come from North America. We’ll see further increase in Asia and hopefully a large increase in Middle East & Africa (5th place - 49 million - 4.8%).
